So ensure that you either secure proof of criteria achieved or that you inform yourself of the times and/or locations where this is possible.

Course Itinerary

Note that this itinerary may be altered due to weather or time constraints.

Please read all of this itinerary as there is important information throughout.

Day I May 12, 2007

08:00-09:00: -meet at St Michael’s hall. Inscriptions, payment of fees, introductions, brief course overview.

09:00-12:00: Good weather >practical flying session*. The objective is to evaluate individual flying skills, from proper launch technique to impeccable approaches and landings.

Poor weather > we will go over learning theory, that is, review some general principals of how and why people learn.

12:00-13:00: LUNCH

13:00-17:00: -depending on how morning proceeds, we will either be doing the theory from the AM, or the AM practical or, in the case of poor weather, there will be theory on the pedagogical aspect of teaching. Such as, methods and logical evolution in instruction, instructor/student relations, lesson plans, etc. . .

Day II May 13th , 2007

O8:00: -meet at location decided on evening before

08:00-12:00:

Poor weather > theory on subject not breached yesterday (pedagogy) or, if done,

theory on practical applications regarding teaching paragliding, i.e. Safety, briefings/debriefings, equipment, etc. . .

Good Weather > practical from glider layout to inflations to first small flights

12:00-13:00: LUNCH

13:00-17:00:

Poor Weather > 10 minute lesson presentation to class with 15 minutes to prepare.

Good weather > Graduate from small flights to high flights with various practical exercises, i.e. radio guiding from bottom and top, paddle guiding, problem solving, etc. . .

Day III May 13, 2007

08:00: meet at location decided on evening before

08:00-12:00:

Poor weather > theory

Good weather > practical

12:00-13:00: LUNCH

13:00-17:00:

Poor weather > theory

Good weather > -practical.

-short written test on theories discussed.

Basically we have three theoretical modules, in order; the how & why of learning, pedagogy and lesson presentation. We also have three practical modules, in order; individual pilot skill evaluation, intro to paragliding/ ground handling, small flights and high flights. These will be presented over the course of the three days depending on weather and time constraints.

*Note: 1) During the course when asked to do demonstrations or explanations, you will act and teach as if the rest of the class is at the level we are at the time.

2) During the course you will conduct yourself as if you already are an instructor, i.e. manage your time professionally, have your gear ready, take the initiative when necessary but confirm actions with course organizers first.

Tandem Seminar

This itinerary is also dependent on weather and time constraints.

The tandem course will involve much more practical as opposed to theoretical sessions. You will also have the opportunity to write your novice or advanced exam, if it is a criteria that you need to obtain.
